A few years ago, it seemed to be an absurd idea to buy a digital camcorder due to its high price. Since many people could not afford it, they bought an analog camcorder instead. However, as the technology improves constantly it means that what was expensive yesterday can be very affordable today. In that sense, it is not impossible anymore to purchase a digital camcorder, and here are some tips to follow before you choose one that will best suit your needs.
You are recommended not to buy any digital camcorder until you haven’t first tried and used it with your hands. This in particular refers to miniDV camcorders, very popular models of camcorders but not a good choice for individuals with large hands. Although they are popular among customers, just imagine how difficult it would be for some people to fiddle with their tiny controls and dials.
Next, the zoom is a very important feature, so make sure you understand how it functions before you buy one. There are two kinds of zooms used on digital camcorders, the optical zoom and the digital zoom. An optical zoom refers to the capability of the lens and zooms in on a subject before you capture it. On the other hand, the digital zoom is used if you want to magnify the image that you already recorded. The bad side with digital zoom is that it can make blurred images, so you better stick to the optical zoom, and get a camera that has at least a 10z optical zoom.
It is always better to provide a digital camcorder which can make both still images and record videos. It’s for sure the best combination. Otherwise, you should carry along both a digital camera and a digital camcorder at the same time and switch back and forth. By providing a camcorder that enables to capture still digital shot, you can be sure that you will avoid this problem.
