When you decide to go to the electronics shop in order to buy a new digital camcorder you will encounter various options. There are many things that you should take into consideration before you choose the suitable model. These include video format, connectivity with other devices, the sound quality, accessories and many other options. One of the requirements that your new digital camcorder must fulfill refers to what type of recording media it will use. Most often, the recording media is tied to the individual video format that the camera is designed to record. Here are some of the most frequent modern formats which can help you choose.
Video Cassette Tapes: This presents one of the oldest format; however, it appears that many manufacturers have quit producing cameras that use tapes. The most common format is still the MiniDV format and there are tapes that will record in both standard and HDV video. It is relatively cheap to buy tapes, but you should know that this format might not be used much longer.
Mini DVD or DVD Discs: Some types of camcorders have the ability to record their footage straight on to a DVD disc. While this makes it convenient to easily play your video recording on regular DVD players, this format is slowly becoming out of use because of newer digital formats.
Memory Cards: Smaller compact video cameras are being designed in such a way that they use SD cards or memory sticks to record your footage. These allow the camera to be of really small size. Built In Hard Disk Drives: Just like your computer, some camcorders have internal hard drives. Most of these models of cameras enable you to record in either standard or high definition quality. You can either use Hard Disk Drive or Memory Card units to download the information onto your computer, or other media to store it permanently.
Although there are various types of storage your digital camcorder will use, it is up to you whether you will use a removable media like tapes or disks, or have a system with memory cards or internal hard drives to download and store your media. Therefore, it would be of great help to find out in advance which options are available.
